Real Weddings: Ashley & Jordan's Mint Green Wedding
This blog was originally written by Madeleine Villa.
2020 is the year of MINT, to be specific neo-mint, a more vibrant version of the fan favourite! Neo-mint has been dubbed the most refreshing colour of the year and we couldn't agree more! Check out Ashley and Jordan 's mint green wedding and how they incorporated Henkaa's Mint Green Sakura Maxi Convertible Dresses into their rustic-chic wedding.
Could you tell us a little about the two of you?
We originally met in elementary school. We were in the same grade in a small town, so we always knew each other. After high school, I went away to university. I was home for the summer, working at the pool and gym, and that’s when we connected.
Jordan started going to the gym on days I worked at the gym, and the pool on days I worked at the pool until I finally agreed to go on a date with him. The rest is history! We made a long-distance relationship work for two more years until I was done school, then I moved back to our hometown.
I am a grade one teacher, and Jordan is a journeyman plumber. We have two dogs together, Macy & Lily, and we also have a two-year-old son, Asher.
Who proposed, can you describe the moment?
Jordan proposed at home after nine years together. He was going to wait until we went golfing later that day, but he is not good with surprises and was too excited to wait!
Could you describe your day and how it came together?
I wanted our day to be as relaxing as possible. I didn’t want to be a “bridezilla” or have any stress related to the wedding. I booked all of the big things like the venue, caterer and photographer, right after we got engaged, and then basically left everything else until the last three weeks when I was done school for the summer. It all came together beautifully, with no stress before or during set up.
I wanted to keep everything simple because the venue is beautiful on its own. I went with babies breath for all the flowers, and the decor was all simple and rustic. Waters Edge Eco Lodge at Greig Lake, Saskatchewan. Our family cabin is across the lake from the resort, and the owners were my neighbours growing up, so it was a very meaningful and beautiful venue.
Can you recall your favourite or most memorable detail of your mint green wedding?
So many favourites! My dad coming into the bridal cabin and seeing me for the first time - tears all around. Seeing Jordan and Asher waiting for me at the end of the aisle. Looking around during the ceremony and feeling so blessed to be surrounded by family and friends. Dancing the night away.
One thing that I will never forget is that my son kept saying to me, and everyone else “my mommy’s a ballerina!”. I’m not sure how he even knows what a ballerina is, but it sure melted my heart!
Why did you choose Henkaa Convertible Dresses for your bridesmaids?
I really liked the idea of a convertible dress so the girls would all be wearing the same colour, but could personalize their style. When I saw that Henkaa dresses are size flexible I was really excited, as I had one bridesmaid that would be one month postpartum, and two others that were hoping to be pregnant at the time of the wedding.
We just thought it would be perfect for the girls, so they wouldn’t have to be worried about what size they might be. When I got the fabric swatch, the mint was exactly the colour I had envisioned. It worked out perfectly for my mint green wedding theme.
